Today's Fox Meme
I'm watching Fox and Friends (so you don't have to), and they're floating the trial balloon about Cheney leaving after the midterm elections. My guess is that the administration is using state-run media to make it seem like the 18% rating has nothing to do with it.
The Fox folks are also trying to rewrite history and tell us that Cheney didn't want the job in the first place.
Of course, Cheney could leave today if he just cited his declining health, so I'm really wondering what angle they're working here. I'm also wondering if the problem is that nobody of prominence really wants the job. Picture yourself a popular red state governor or senator. Are you really going to want to have to carry this administration's water? The only administration figure to retain any kind of positive ratings is Condi Rice, and I suspect that it's because she's been invisible in the last few weeks.
So that's the question. Would any thinking human being jump at the chance to jump into the Plame investigation, Cheney shooting a man in the face, wiretapping and the Dubai ports controversy?

On the other hand, being VP-select (as opposed to President-select) is a leg up for the 2008 rethuglican nomination: can't be chosen lightly, or 2006-2008 will be even more *lame-duckness*.
