The plot thickens
Apparently, a source told George Stephanopolous that Bush and Cheney were actually involved in the decision to out Valerie Plame. So far, Patrick Fitzgerald has been tight-lipped, and with the exception of this possible bomb, leakproof. And with good reason -- You have to wonder if someone who received the leak actually inquired of it's source. It may be why Robert Novak hasn't been indicted.
The investigation is winding down, or so it seems. Now that Judith Miller has implicated Scooter Libby, the puzzle pieces would seem to all be in place. I'm not a lawyer, and I don't know if it's possible to extend a grand jury or start a new one, but if something like this happens, it could be a sign that things go up to the VP or President.
My guess is that Libby released Miller from her promise of confidentiality strictly because of the timing. He probably figured that he could almost run the clock out and then weasel out by saying "Whoa - big misunderstanding. You could have testified all along." You can read the letters here (yes, it's Powerline.) You decide if that's how it looks.
I could, of course, be wrong about this. But keep an eye out for a possible blockbuster from Fitzgerald. The next few weeks could be very interesting.
And while you're at it, check out firedoglake, where Jane has been tying a can to the administration's tail.
