Flu Wiki
I was just reading the Avian Flu Wiki. The aspects of this becoming a pandemic are especially frightening to me. There's a good chance that nothing will happen immediately, possibly at all, but we still need to plan for it. If the virus mutates to become transmissable between humans, we're potentially in a lot of danger, with a potential death toll in the millions.
We've had these pandemics before, and they tend to happen a few times every hundred years. I have to say that the slow pace of action leaves a lot to be desired. Since the previous outbreaks, we've seen the world linked by air travel and the rise of factory farms. It seems as though these factors could balance out the improvements in medicine and technological improvements in vaccine production.
And if you're up for reading a really technical (and really good) technical analysis, check out It's My Country Too.
