We've found the pro-torture lobby!

News Item from Fire Dog Lake: We've found the House Republican pro-torture caucus.

A few days ago, Ed Markay and Earl Blumenauer put forth an amendment to stop funding for extraordinary rendition. Extraordinary rendition is when our government really, really wants to torture someone but can't, because Amnesty International is watching. So we ship them off to countries with human rights records that would make Idi Amin shiver. And then (get this), these other countries torture them.

Not surprisingly, in the wake of Abu Ghraib, extraordinary rendition has come under scrutiny. Seriously, what difference does it make who's hands are actually on the taser? It's torture, and it's being done in our name.

So who would vote against this amendment? We would have to assume that they actually condone and favor torture. I am now proud to give you the two proud members of the House Republican Pro-Torture Caucus. They are Robin Hayes (R-NC) and Mark Souder (R-IN). You may remember Rep. Souder for his comments that the Iraqi Constitution needs to have Judeo-Christian beliefs written into it. You can read my article on it (and see a way-cool photo of Rep. Souder standing in Saddam's spider hole wearing body armor over a Cosby sweater) here.

You know, that photo of Souder is so stupid at first I was convinced it was photoshopped. That's truly priceless.

I know - it would be a cheap shot if I hadn't grabbed it from the photos page of his own Web Page.

While I'm at it, here's another picture of that snappy sweater. Note that he's wearing a plaid shirt under it. Who let him leave the house dressed like that?
